HP ProLiant MicroServer owners' thread Discussion in 'SSDs. I ve got the HP 5.1.0-Update1-1065491-HP-5.50.26.iso on a USB stick which I ve recently used successfully on other HP Proliant servers. I boot from the USB stick, and install ESXi to another USB stick. HP Microserver Gen8 Intel Xeon E3-1265L v2 (Ivy Bridge). There is an internal USB slot and an embedded micro SD card reader. Both are visible to ESX and unRAID 5.0.5/6. So you tested asm1061 sata controller with HP Microserver Gen8 right? Is it possible to boot from asm1061 attached Sata disk? I just upgraded from a HP Gen7 ProLiant Microserver (N36L) to a HPE Gen10 ProLiant Microserver (Entry model) after RAM starvation gave me issues ( see post ) . It came today and I was super excited to install FreeNAS and import my zfs pools, but here I am after four hours with an OS-less server. I used my original boot media - the one I used to install FreeNAS 11.0 on my Gen7, but that failed even when I enabled legacy boot mode and removed all other boot media from the boot order in BIOS. After running the same procedure with 2 more SanDisk drives, 16GB and 64GB respectively, I decided to try some other boot images. I formatted the drives, and flashed the FreeNAS 9 boot image to the USB drives. That didn't work either. For good measure, I repeated the whole process with a FreeNAS 10.2 Corral iso that I had, too. Still didn't work. I figured it might be a problem with ISOtoUSB, so I repeated everything above with Win32DiskImager. Still no OS detected by the machine.
I don't know what to try anymore. I want to avoid majorly screwing up the new microserver because it's brand new. Does anybody have any suggestions? Also, once I have FreeNAS up and running on the Gen10, how likely am I to successfully re-import my zfs pool without any errors? Are there any other NAS OSs that give me an equal chance in recovering my zfs pools?
